I recently had the privilege of visiting the great country of Cuba. Regardless of whether or not I believe in their politics, I do believe in the people….and the cars. Oh those Cuban cars – they are the coolest. I could not get enough of them, particularly in Havana where they are EVERYWHERE. I was dizzy with all the photo ops. The drivers are so used to stalkers like me, they will actually slow down for you to ensure you get a good shot – the Cuban people are good like that – a very welcoming and proud culture.
I found a great wikipedia article on the so called “Yank Tanks” that will give you some insight on how these beauties are maintained and the history behind them. Hope you enjoy the cars through my eyes as well as other forms of transportation in Cuba. As you can imagine, very few people have cars and rely on bikes, horses, buses and hitchhiking to get around. This was the first place I have ever been where there was ZERO traffic on the ‘freeways’.
